Inspired by the mythological Putto-figure, the sculptures Demian and Delilah depict creatures caught in the midst of erotic acts, both angelic, demonic, and humanlike. The sculptures materialize states where gender dissolves and become pure sex, whilst portraying scenarios in which the erotic power of the flesh enables a spiritual disintegration of the body. The sculptures become representatives of both physical and mental states where borders of the physical self dissolve and body parts merge into masses of flesh and desire. Made out of unfired clay, the materiality of the sculptures suggests a fragility similar to that of the living body. Permeable and vulnerable, they hold the fleeting potential of transforming and vanishing over time. Their size and detailed nature invite the spectator to examine the works at close hand as if allowed to peek through a window into a private space of intimacy.
